Back from Hiatus…

It has been a VERY long time since I have written. There has been some crazy things going on right now turning life a little topsy turvy. Both my husband and I changed jobs creating some long days and very little time together. We are now starting to get into a rhythm which is just in time for our new little niece and our new little niece or nephew to join the world. That’s right, both my sisters are pregers and due ANY day! I’m super excited to be an aunty twice and can’t wait to meet these little peanuts :)  

This weekend is my first weekend off in a long while and I thought this would be the perfect time to give the main floor of the house a little face lift. It’s been rainy and humid so I love working in the house and updating some decor. The plan was to originally just paint the dining room and kitchen, but after painting I became so inspired by the color I felt the living room needed a little boost as well. My husband has been so patient with me even helping me reach the top of the 9 ft ceilings once he got home from work.

Today’s mission is to work on the half wall in the living room and to hang the artwork behind the sofa. If there is time I also plan on painting the half bath off the kitchen and maybe hanging some shelves :) Jon is home today and he has agreed to go with me to collect supplies before we head over to Sunday lunch with the fam. I don’t think he has any idea however what I have planned and I’m choosing the right moment to break the news to him :)

Spring Trends

Other than Fashion week, the best place to get a glimpse of the fashion trends popular for this spring is the red carpet at any of the major awards shows. The 70th annual Golden Globes showcased three gorgeous trends, blush tones, red hot and stark white.

Ladies in red included best actress in a musical or comedy winner Jennifer Lawrence who was spotted wearing a Dior Haute couture gown (one of my favorite designers), comedy darling Zooey Deschanel (who paired her gown with perfectly manicured nail art involving film strips and a camera) in Oscar de la Renta and “Homeland” star Claire Danes in Versace.

Recent bride, and best supporting actress for “Les Misserables” winner, Anne Hathaway dazzled in stark white Chanel. Other stars seen in this pristine trend include “Downton Abby” star Michelle Dockery and Heidi Klum.

Though women captivated in red and white, it was clear the most popular trend by far was gowns in blush tones. Stars like Amy Adams in Marchessa, Amanda Seyfried in a high-neck, Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci and “Nashville” star Hayden Panettiere in Roberto Cavalli wowed in blush and are perhaps some of the best dressed from the evening.

The Boxed Clutch

Awards season is in full swing and the eye candy walking down the red carpet last night at the Golden Globes was dazzling. It was hard to pick a favorite dress with so many beautiful choices. It was however, much easier to identify a major trend among the gilded set, the boxed clutch. Seen in the pedicured hands of starlets like Jennifer Laurence, Megan Fox, Katharine McPhee and Hayden Penettiere, the boxed clutch added a touch of contemporary charm to the feminine gowns. Basics for Every Wardrobe

With the holiday season over and my closet full of beautiful new things, I spent time yesterday going through everything. It always feels so good to get rid of items that no loner fit or are worn out. I always take this time to reevaluate my closet and see if anything needs to be replaced. A good way of doing this is deciding what basics your closet must have and build around those. Here is a list of the basics I keep in my closet,
